MEYER, JAMES H., AND MORTON I. GROSSMAN. Comparison of Dand L-phenylalanine as pancreatic stimulants. Am. J. Physid. 222(a) : 1058-1063. 1972.-In dogs with pancreatic fistulas and arrangements for perfusing intact intestine, the following observations were made: 1) during continuous intravenous infusion of a submaximal dose of secretin, instillation of L-phenylalanine at pH 7 into the duodenum increased pancreatic volume and bicarbonate and protein output, but at pH 7 D-phenylalanine had no effect; 2) perfusion of the proximal 45 cm of small intestine with L-phenylalanine at pH’s varying from 1.3 to 7.5 produced significantly larger pancreatic protein outputs than D-phenylalanine at each pH; 3) intraduodenal infusion of 1, 2, 3, or 4 mEq/l5 min of HCl alone or these same amounts of HCl with 3.2 mmoles of Dor L-phenylalanine added showed that pancreatic bicarbonate and protein responses to HCl alone and HCl plus D-phenylalanine were not significantly different, whereas both bicarbonate and protein responses were larger with HCl plus L-phenylalanine than with HCl alone. Conclusions drawn are a) intraduodenal L-phenylalanine stimulates pancreatic secretion, whereas n-phenylalanine does not; b) stimulation by L-phenylalanine is not abolished by acidification to pH 1.3; and c) the stimulus of intraduodenal L-phenylalanine interacts with the stimulus of intraduodenal acid to produce a potentiated response.

Preparation of a Selective L-Phenylalanine Imprinted Polymer Implicated in Patients with Phenylketonuria

Abstract Background: Molecular imprinting is a method for synthesizing polymers with structure-selective adsorption properties with applications such as, selectivity binding, drug delivery systems and anti-bodies. The present study aims at optimizing the preparation of molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) against l-phenylalanine, in order to increase phenylalanine-binding in Enzymatic Intestinal...

Comparison between Polyvinyl Pyrrolidone/Na2SO4 Aqueous Two-Phase Systems and Chromatographic Methods for Purification of Recombinant Phenylalanine Dehydrogenase

Phenylalanine dehydrogenase (PheDH; EC 1.4.1.20) is an important enzyme of amino acid dehydrogenases family that increasingly used as a valuable biocatalyst in neonatal screening kits and synthesis of L-phenylalanine. The goal of this literature was to find a suitable purification method for recombinant Bacillus badius PheDH by practical comparison between chromatographic and polyvinyl pyrrolid...

Comparison of inducible nitric oxide synthase activity in pancreatic islets of young and aged rats

Objective(s):Some pathologic situations such as diabetes and metabolic syndrome are associated with alternation in nitric oxide level. Incidence of these condition increases with aging. On the other hand, insulin secretion is modulated by nitric oxide, and nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activity is also altered in diabetes. In this study, modification in the enzyme activity associated with aging a...

Effect of Vitamin D Supplementation on Pancreatic Β -Cell Function in Patients with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus and Vitamin D Deficiency: A Clinical Trial Study

Background Considering the increasing prevalence of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) as an autoimmune disease in recent years and the positive effects of vitamin D (VD) on this disease, especially the preventive effect of VD on progressive reduction of pancreatic β-cells, we aimed to investigate the effect of VD on pancreatic β-cell function in T1DM patients. Materials and Methods From Sep 2016 ...

Comparison of phenylalanine and tyrosine in urine of patients with vitiligo and normal subjects

Amino acids are one of the most necessary substances in intracellular metabolic processes.aromatic aminoacids such as phenylalanine and tyrosine are precursor of melanin so are important materials for the skin pigmentation.metabolic disorders in the melanin synthesis causes milky macules on the skin of patients, known as vitiligo.these patients are hypersensitive to sunlight and consequently at ...
